A doula can provide health education, advocacy, and physical, emotional, and non-medical support for pregnant and postpartum persons before, during, and after childbirth, including support during miscarriage, stillbirth, and abortion. Services can be provided virtually or in person with locations in any setting, including, but not limited to, homes, office visits, hospitals, or alternative birth centers.
Members have the following reimbursable doula benefits:
Coverage Includes visits plus support during labor and delivery;
- Initial visit
- Up to 8 prenatal or postpartum visits
- Support during labor and delivery (including labor and delivery ending in stillbirth), miscarriage, and abortion.
- Up to 2 extended three-hour postpartum visits
Limitations:
- All visits are limited to one per day, per member.
- One prenatal visit or one postpartum visit (can be provided on the same day as labor and delivery, stillbirth, abortion, or miscarriage support).
Exclusions:
- Belly binding (traditional/ceremonial)
- Birthing ceremonies (i.e., sealing, closing the bones, etc.)
- Group classes on babywearing
- Massage (maternal or infant)
- Photography
- Placenta encapsulation
Reimbursement:
Please keep copies of all receipts and documentation received from your doula provider.
This is a reimbursable benefit. You must pay your doula provider directly for covered services and submit a reimbursement form to Western Health Advantage to receive your reimbursement.
