Breast cancer is the second most common kind of cancer in women. About one in eight women born today in the United States will get breast cancer at some point.

The good news is that many women can survive breast cancer when it’s found and treated early. A screening mammogram is an X-ray of the breast used to detect breast changes in women who have no signs or symptoms of breast cancer. Screening mammograms are covered for women over age 40 with active benefit coverage.

If you are a woman under age 40 who is at higher-than-average risk of breast cancer – for example, if a close family member of yours had breast or ovarian cancer – ask your doctor how often a mammogram is recommended.

If you are a woman age 40 to 49, talk with your doctor about when to start getting mammograms and how often to get them

If are a woman age 50 to 74, a mammogram is recommended at least every two years, or you may also choose to get them more often.

Today is a great day to schedule your next mammogram.
